Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to come see you?

No, you do not need a referral. YOU are the expert on what you need, so if you think you’d like to talk to me about the challenges you are facing, all you have to do is reach out and connect with me.

I feel nervous and uncomfortable about coming to therapy. What can help me feel better about this?

It’s completely natural to feel nervous about meeting someone new and opening up about things that might feel uncomfortable. It’s not normally something we do in our everyday life, where we would usually guard ourselves until we can be sure it’s safe to open up.

I will do my best to help you feel as comfortable as possible, and you can ask any questions you need to help you feel you can trust in me. You decide what you want to talk about, and you can choose not to open up about certain things until it feels safe to do so, and I will respect that. In our talks together, I encourage you to dig deep and trust your intuition about what feels good and right for you. YOU are the very best expert on your situation, and what you need, and what helps, and what can reasonably fit into your life. I may help by asking questions to help you find clarity, encouraging you to consider other perspectives, or exploring possible options, but ultimately YOU are the one in the driver’s seat as we travel this journey together.

I will assess your needs and goals in each session and adapt the treatment approach I use accordingly so that you get the best therapeutic outcome in each session. I use a trauma-informed approach in everything I do in my practice to support your safety, comfort, exploration and personal growth in a manner that fits your individual pace and readiness to engage in this deep, challenging, life-changing, healing process.

Are your services covered by my benefits?

For Canadian Armed Forces and Veterans Affairs Canada members, I bill directly to Medavie Blue Cross on your behalf for your pre-approved sessions, so there is no financial obligation on your part.

Most benefits plans cover services by a Registered Social Worker (RSW). You will need to check with your employer’s benefits provider directly to see what coverage is included in your specific plan. You are responsible to pay me for your session and then submit your receipt to your benefits provider for reimbursement from the insurance company. Be sure to keep your receipts for any balance that is not covered, as this can be submitted on your yearly tax return and claimed as a medical expense.

How do I pay?

Cash, cheque, e-transfer and credit card are all appreciated forms of payment for sessions.

What if I need to cancel an appointment?

I ask you to let me know with as much notice as possible if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment. You can email, text or call me and we can reschedule. Cancellations require 24 hours notice; otherwise regular hourly rates may apply. Regular fees may also apply for missed appointments.
